New AFA Contract has been approved overwhelmingly by the AFA membership at the membership meeting on November 9, 2005

 
Summary

1. Pay increase

  • Five-year contract (2005- 2010), 3.90 % increase each year. No retroactive this year to September 1st, but starts as of November 1, 2005.

2. Professional Excellence Pay. This applies only to those (across the board) who

   have 20 years or more service, starting 3rd year of contract.

  • $30 per contact hour in 3rd year, $30 per contact hour in 4th year, and $40 per contact hour in 5th year.

3. Personal Leave

  • 3/40 - You earn 3 days in a year and can accumulate to up to a maximum of 40 days.

4. Contact Hours

  • 16/20 - You can teach 16 contact hours in one year and 20 contact hours in the next year, as long as you teach a total of 36 contact hours in any consecutive two years. The rule 8/18 still applies.

5. Health Insurance

  • Individual can buy the health insurance coverage through any of the four existing county HMO plans. For further information please contact Steve Leonard at leonars@ncc.edu.

 
 

To the Membership:

I have received so many warm thanks in the form of e-mail messages, that I thought I would convey my appreciation to all of you by writing this e-mail.

I am proud to be the president of such an unusual union---scholars who are as tough as longshoremen. Men and women who have the courage to stand up and be counted, and that have the faith in the leadership to stand with them when we fight for that which all of us deserve.

This is a good contract. The next one will be better! Why? Because we have a great union!
