Under the terms of the new contract the retention pool starts at 6 (six) semesters and all adjuncts who put in availability forms and are qualified for courses running must be offered an assignment down to 1 (one) semester of seniority before a new person can be hired. The only exception to this provision is in the case of administrative priority appointments.
Administrative appointments may be no more than 10% of the courses in any department or six (6) courses whichever is less.
Faculty with three (3) or fewer semesters may be removed from the seniority list only if they have been observed and provided with a written copy of the observation.
One may be removed from the seniority list if one declines work that has been offered in 4 consecutive semesters. However, if you send the availability form back indicating "not available" is not a declination in the context of the contract nor is asking for a leave of absence counted as declination.
The difference between union dues and agency fees is only ten dollars ($10) per semester.
You can get no more than three (3) seniority credits per academic year.
Seventy two percent (72%) of NCC faculty is composed of adjuncts.
About 28% of the adjuncts hold Ph.D. degrees, about 20% hold M.S./M.A. + 30 credits degrees, about 44% hold M.S./M.A. degrees, about 8% hold B.S./B.A. degrees, and about 1% hold A. A. Degrees.
Fifty four percent (54%) of the courses are taught by the adjuncts, yet they draw only nine percent (9%) of the total college budget.
