Subject: Contract Signing

 

It has come to our attention that some chairs are asking members to sign individual assignment contracts before January 11, 12,and 13. Those are the dates designated by the administration and printed in the AFA calendar.

 

Changing the dates that were established and promulgated before the beginning of the academic year would violate Article 17 of the AFA contract which provides that any procedural changes must be accompanied by notification "at least one semester in advance of such changes."

 

The adjunct faculty has until January 13th to decide on whether they will be signing course assignment contracts.

 

Do not sign contracts before the designated time. Apprise any chair who suggests an early signing that the dates designated by the administration and announced to the college community were January 11, 12, and 13.

 

There will be an important meeting of the adjunct faculty on Saturday January 8th at 9:00 A.M. at the Chateau Briand on Old Country Road in Westbury. We will be discusssing many things including course assignment contracts.

 

The January edition of the VANGUARD should arrive during the first week of January. Read it carefully. It will prepare you for the January 8th meeting.
