ADJUNCT ORIENTATION

             Adjunct orientation will take place on Oct. 16, 2004. This will be the second  such meeting at Nassau Community College and is now an annual orientation. Over 100 new adjuncts have been invited to meet in CCB 252/3 at 10:00. All new faculty, teaching and non-teaching, from  the last three semesters are included.  All department representatives and officers of the AFA will be in attendance, as well as a number of administrators. The program will include an introduction and a presentation by college officials. Following this there will be a presentation by the officers of the AFA. An adjunct orientation handbook will be distributed and light refreshments will be provided.

                                                           RETIREMENT

             Dr. Renner's efforts to achieve equity for adjunct retirees have attracted significant interest and comment in the adjunct community. The question that was asked  most often dealt with retroactivity. At this point there is no provision to make the new guidelines retroactive, but the AFA is working on this idea and will keep everyone posted as we move on this front.

PROFESSOR’S BONUS

            Section 6.1(i) of the AFA Contract provides for a $150 bonus for adjunct professors to be paid “in the first paycheck.” A payroll consideration has made it necessary to include the $150 in the second paycheck.
