In a unanimous vote, the AFA Executive Board has named Greg Peterson the Man of the Year. He will be presented with a plaque commemorating the presentation at the AFA Spring Conference that will be held at the Chateau Briand on Saturday May 14th.

Greg has had a most impressive career in public service. He began serving the public as an Assistant District Attorney in the Rackets Bureau. His political career started when in 1972 he was elected town councilman. He was then elected to the Nassau County Board of Supervisors in 1987 and became the Presiding Supervisor in 1993 serving until the new legislature was elected.

As Presiding Supervisor, he drafted and administered a $275 million dollar annual budget and 2,600 employees. In 1998, Greg was named Chairman and CEO of the Nassau Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation.        In that capacity, he managed the corporation’s fifteen branches, 350 employees and the corporate headquarters. He monitored the corporation’s $250 million dollar annual budget and negotiated all labor contracts.

Since his brief respite from public office, Greg has practiced law with the firm of Berkman, Henoch, Peterson, & Peddy where he is a major partner.

Most important to the AFA is the personal relationship the leadership of our union has had with this amazing public servant. AFA President Charles Loiacono will certainly cover that ground when he makes the presentation on May 14th.
