         Spring Conference

        While the Professional Excellence Committee works on its final determination in the evaluation of candidates for the coveted Professional Excellence Award, the AFA Executive Board has chosen a winner for the Man of the Year Award.

        The formal announcement will be made in the April issue of the VANGUARD.

Negotiations

        The AFA leadership has made plans for negotiating a successor agreement as the expiration of the current contract fast approaches. ?We have every intention of negotiating a new agreement well before September 30^th,? said AFA President Charles Loiacono.

 Pension Credit for Adjunct Faculty

        Peg Renner, our resident retirement guru, deserves all the credit for breaking down the bureaucratic walls of Albany and getting the formula changed for adjunct pension credit.

        She recently received a letter from Colleen Laven of the Information and Communication Center of the N.Y. State Teachers? Retirement System. The letter confirms the new method of calculating service for pension purposes.

        The letter has been printed on page 3 of this issue. Since we received it by fax, it?s a bit fuzzy. Our apology.
