Announcements

On Monday April 3rd, the Nassau County Legislature unanimously ratified the AFA successor agreement. The ratification was pro forma.

Implementation of the new provisions goes into effect immediately. Pay, which will be retroactive to November 1st, will come after the end of the spring semester. Allen Gurien, vice-president in charge of finance, reported to the VANGUARD that it was too late to change the payroll at this stage of the semester. So, there will be a separate check representing retroactive pay from November 1st up to and including the entire spring semester.

The new pay scales will go into effect with the first summer session. Thereafter, all pay increases will be automatic.

The Attempt

The attempt to deny all full-time members of the AFA bargaining unit their right to teach whenever they are available is fully discussed by AFA President Charles Loiacono in his column “The Union’s Position” on page 2.
