As you know there will be a special election in the 7^th District to fill the vacancy created by Senator Michael Balboni’s appointment to head the state’s home land security post. The Democratic candidate in the coming election on February 6^th will be Craig Johnson.

 

The Johnson name has been synonymous with AFA support from the first days of the Nassau County Legislature. Beginning with Barbara Johnson, the Johnsons have always been there for us. Barbara sometimes stood alone in her support of the AFA, and she always stood proudly in that support. She started the biggest AFA scholarship years ago, and Craig and Barbara’s husband Stuart have continued that scholarship ever since. When Craig was elected after Barbara left us, he not only continued the Johnson tradition, he proved to be as staunch a supporter of the AFA as his mother had been, and has gone above and beyond in standing firmly on our side. I have gone to Craig many times seeking support for our membership, and I am here to tell you that Craig has never said no. Indeed, he has always been one of the most vocal defenders of adjunct rights.

 

The time has come to say thanks. Craig now needs our support. As in the past, the AFA will be there to help a friend. Our records show that about 400 AFA members live in the 7^th District. Since our members always vote, and since their families also vote, we can multiply that number. Beyond that, we urge you to get your neighbors, friends, and associates living in the 7^th to vote for Craig. We can make our support most effective if we volunteer to give Craig a most precious gift—our time. Volunteer to give Craig a couple of hours of your time. Here are the contact persons.
