OFFICIAL ELECTION NOTICE

The terms of all Officers and Department Representatives will expire on December 31, 2008. Notice is hereby given that a general election will be held in November 2008 to fill the following positions:

President – Vice President*

Treasurer

 Financial Secretary

 Recording Secretary

 Department Representative

Nominating petition for the positions is printed on the next page. They may also be obtained from Mahadev Kumbar, Elections Committee Chair, who can be contacted at 516-390-9156 / kumbarm@ncc.edu.

* The AFA Constitution requires candidates for President and Vice President to run on the same line.

PROCEDURES

  1. The Elections Committee must receive nominating petitions no later than October 14, 2008.  Each   nominating    petition for an Officer position shall require the signatures of at least 25 members in good standing.  Each nominating petition for a Department Representative shall require the signatures of at least 10% of the members in good      standing in the Representative’s respective department.

2.                A candidate for any of the above positions must be a member in good standing for one year prior to running for election..

3.                Voting shall be by printed secret ballot.  A ballot will be delivered to every member eligible to vote.

4.                In order to vote, a member must be working at the time of the election, or on release time, or on special assignment, and must be a member in good standing for thirty (30) days prior to the election.

5.                Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters on or before October 18, 2008, and will be returnable no later than October 31, 2008.  Eligible members who do not receive a ballot by October 25, 2008, should contact the Election Committee Chair.

6.                The AFA Constitution does not permit write-in ballots and such ballots will not be counted in this election.

7.                The candidates receiving the largest number of votes shall be declared elected to their respective offices.

8.                The terms for all Officers and Department Representatives shall be for two years and shall begin on January 1st following the election.
