The
Union's Position
|
As we put the fall semester behind us and gear up for 2009, the AFA welcomes two new members of the Executive Board. The result of the recent election is printed in this issue. Also printed in these pages are the announcement of our annual scholarships for part-time students (the only scholarships given to part-time students at NCC) and the announcement for candidates for the AFA Professional Excellence Award. Besides gearing up for a new year, we continue our fight on several fronts. The ELI/LINCC scam continues as we await an arbitration decision on ELI. The hearings in that matter have been completed. If the AFA prevails on the merits, there will be another hearing on remedy. |
The reason for this is that the parties agreed to bifurcate the case allowing for argument at a separate hearing on how much the administration should pay the union for back pay, back union dues, and damages. Then there is the PERB case on the LINCC scam. The hearings in that matter have been completed, the briefs have been filed, and we are now waiting for a decision by the administrative law judge. If the reader senses that these matters have been going on for a long time, the reader would be right. The problem causing the inordinate delays we experience is the fact that lawyers are involved. The AFA President opines on this matter in “The Union’s Position” . |
