For NCC trustees it was a long summer. It was longer for the three finalists.

“Unfortunately, the etiology of this imbroglio cannot be told,” said AFA President Charles Loiacono. “SUNY has very strict rules about confidentiality. Choosing a college president must be surrounded by secrecy. The college community and the public are not allowed to know what goes on. At first blush that caveat seems reasonable; that is, it would be unfair to reveal the names of candidates since they might be reluctant to

have it known that they are seeking a new position. But the secrecy doesn’t end there. Nothing having to do with the search, including any high jinks can be revealed; and that proscription never ends. So says the deputy chancellor. The CIA has much to learn from SUNY.”

Considering that no part of the college community can ever know what caused the split among the trustees, we are left with the one fact we are permitted to know—the name of the chosen one. He is Donald P. Astrab.

            We wish him God’s speed.
