At a meeting held before Christmas, members of the AFA and the administration compared numbers representing each side’s calculation of the remedy imposed by the arbitration panel in the ELI case.

While there was agreement concerning the $319,742 differential to be given to ELI instructors, representing the difference between the salary the instructors received and the AFA salary scale, the administration made a $12,137 error in calculating the total $17,872 agency fee owed to the AFA. When we pointed out the error, those representing the administration were

nonplused. They couldn’t understand how they had left out the biggest part of the agency fee remedy. It, of course, was a mere oversight.

New Neutral

At the same meeting both sides set to work striking some 60 names from a PERB list of arbitrators. The last name remaining was that of David L. Gregory, the Dorothy Day Professor of Law at St. John’s University Law School.

A Yale University Law School graduate, Gregory has a long list of credits and comes highly recommended. We look forward to working with him.
